What is Meals on Wheels? |

Lubbock Meals on
Wheels is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to providing
and delivering good, nutritional food to the homebound of our
community. |

What is our Service Area?

Lubbock Meals
on Wheels serves hot meals daily to the people who reside in the
cities of
Lubbock and Idalou. |
|
|
|
Who can Receive Meals?
|
|
The Board of
Directors has established three criteria that all applicants must
meet before they can receive meals.

A person must be homebound or need assistance
to leave home.

A person must be unable to prepare a
well-balanced meal each day.

A person must not have anyone who is
available to prepare meals for them.

What Kind of Meals are Served?
|

Each meal is
low in salt and lightly seasoned containing:
The following
meal choices are available:
Regular, Soft, Diabetic, Bland, and Vegetarian.
Menus are
prepared each month by a dietitian. |

What do the Meals Cost? |
|
Lubbock Meals
on Wheels believes in giving recipients an opportunity to share in
the cost of the services provided to them through voluntary
contributions. Monthly reminders will show the suggested
contribution based on the recipient’s income and expenses. No one is
denied service due to an inability to contribute. These
contributions are very important because they supply a significant
part of the operating budget and allow Lubbock Meals on Wheels to
continue to provide services to all those in need. |

How can Someone get on the Program?
|
|
Anyone can
make a referral by simply calling the Lubbock Meals on Wheels office at
792-7971. Our office hours are 8:00a.m. to 4:30p.m., Monday through
Friday. |

How is Meals on Wheels Funded?
|
|
A local Board
of Directors set the policies and procedures that govern the
program. Lubbock Meals on Wheels is funded by the good citizens of
this community. Recipients, churches, civic clubs, individuals,
businesses, schools, and foundations support the program. Lubbock
Meals on Wheels is NOT a United Way Agency and we do not receive
money from the federal, state, or local government. |

Special Benefits (as available)
|
|
Every Friday
recipients receive fresh flowers donated by local wholesale florist
companies. Recipients' birthdays are recognized with a card and a
cake or some other special treat. Clients may sometimes receive a
plant grown in the Meals on Wheels' greenhouse. Periodically
magazines, books,
and other
reading materials are sent along with the usual delivery. At
Christmas, recipients enjoy the Twelve Days of Christmas Project in
which a variety of items, goodies, and gifts are delivered on each
of the twelve days prior to the holiday. Also, weekend meal sacks
containing various foods are available to those people with the
greatest need. |
